COX AT IT AGAIN!
The Lakeland 100 Ultra tour of the Lake District is a circular route encompassing the whole of the Lakeland Fells and has an overall ascent of 6300m. Mark Cox a veteran of Ultra races had had very little preparation coming into this event due to illness and injury and jokingly explained that he decided to 'give it a go' because he couldn't find the cancel button on the email entry. Over all fitness carried him through to 90 miles but eventually the lack of training caused his body to shut down and ultimately a dnf was recorded. It was still a fantastic performance from the 'machine' and no doubt he will return and conquer.
Elizabeth Peel went further afield to continue her quest to complete her 100 h/m by completing the Lauwersoog-Ulrum half marathon in 2:03:54 whilst on holiday in Holland, a feat made all the more remarkable by the fact that, due to a logistics nightmare, she had to ride 12km to the start and 12km home again, half marathon 56 completed.
Nearer to home, the Tamworth-based Gate Gallop 10k attracted a plethora of Badgers with Matt Green taking the honours of 1st Badger back in 48:04 followed closely by Jim Cottam 48:27, Carl Savage 50:36 and Rob Crow 54:15, with Joanne Crow, Rachael Browne Jane Barrett, Paul Cooper, Vicky Jones and Grace Barsby all ducking under the hour with Sharon Jackson just outside.
Parkrun once again saw Badgers performing well all over the country, especially the ladies. Maggi Savin-Baden 29:39, 3rd in age at Keswick, Megan Griffiths 5th at Crewe, Yvonne Faulkner-Grant 5th at Aberfields, Nivette Chester 7th Market Bosworth, Jill Miller 9th at Kingsbury as well as Rachael Browne (6), Jane Barrett (7) and Anne Whitby-Smith (9) all making the top ten at Tamworth castle. Paul Cooper and Victoria Jones both set course pb's at Coventry, however parkrun performance of the week came at Tamworth castle grounds where Badger made the top ten. Matt Green 10th 20;46, Mark Repton 3rd 19:38 and once again the newly acquired, ever improving Mark Jarvis 18:41 coming out on top and adding his name to the ever increasing list of Badgers who have finished 1st at parkrun.
